MAURICE HODGES
Maurice has accompanied Haslingfield Choir during rehearsals for many years and regularly performs at our concerts. Born in Portadown, Northern Ireland, he read music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, studying composition with Robin Holloway. He teaches the piano at Anglia Ruskin University, King’s College School, Cambridge, Swavesey Village College and also privately. He is in great demand as a chamber musician, orchestral pianist and accompanist and has performed several concertos, including works by Mozart (K.242, 365, 449, 453, 456, 488, 491), Stravinsky (piano and wind), Gershwin (Concerto in F) and Fauré (Ballade). He also plays the bassoon and recorder, and has played keyboard in a ceilidh band. Maurice has produced many arrangements, some of which have been published, broadcast or recorded on CD. He publishes his own arrangements and compositions under the imprint of Gilliland Publications. In 2004, 2011 and 2015 Maurice participated in Cambridge Grade One-athon events (on viola, horn and both respectively) and reached Grade 5 horn several years ago, playing regularly with the Cambridge Wind Band. |
