PAUL JACKSON
Paul is a conductor, pianist and musicologist who joined Haslingfield Choir as musical director in 2017. He was formerly Director of Music and Performance at Anglia Ruskin University, where he directed the Anglia Ruskin Orchestra and Chorus, the contemporary music group Anglia Sinfonia, and Anglia Opera. He studied music at the University of East Anglia, specialising in performance under John York, and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and City University with Alan Hazeldine. He has been active as an exponent of contemporary music for many years, both as pianist and conductor, and has commissioned and performed many works by leading composers. As a pianist, he has played with saxophonist Damian Royannais, marimba player Daniela Geneva, with The Mifune Tsuji Trio, and with thereminst and ondes Martenot player Charlie Draper. Paul is a leading expert on the Australian composer Percy Grainger, and has published research in ‘The New Percy Grainger Companion’ and ‘Grainger Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal’. He was appointed President of the Percy Grainger Society in 2021. |
